Swords and Sorcery – Sovereign

Swords and Sorcery – Sovereign is set to be the sequel to Swords and Sorcery – Underworld (available here!)

The French call it L’Arlésienne1. English speakers prefer the term vaporware. While there are good reasons for this (it’s been a bumpy ride), I have a 1.68GB file full of data, code and images that says otherwise.

Underworld was a stepping stone to see if I could pull it off. It took many iterations, bug fixes, user feedback etc etc to gather the knowledge and motivation for my RPG magnus opus.

So What’s New?

Lots.

Open World!

Many places to see (all done!)

Mountains, forest, desert, tundra, deadlands… Underwater! Lots of towns and cities, caverns, dungeons, castles and… There may or may not be a spaceship. Don’t ask me, I’ll never tell.

200 Monsters

That’s a lot.

For those wondering why they’re not animated, it was 200 still framed monsters or 30 animated ones.

Fleshed-Out Spell System

Eighty Elemental, Light, Psychic and Necromantic spells to be found via trainers, quests, exploration or just plain old-fashioned killing.

Crafting

I haven’t completely nailed that down yet. Screenshot will be added when done.

Quests and Interactions

That’s the big one. There might be a little too much… It feels kind of MMORPG as a solo player. There’s a lot for me to digest, keep coherent and fun.

When Will It Be Ready?

Stop asking that please. I’ve come to believe answering that question is bad luck.

Jokes aside, I’m working on the game, this website (SEO), the Youtube videos and Iron Ruler’s networking system, all in conjunction, so as to have decent traction the day Sovereign is released. I can manage 3-4 hours of work on all of this a day.

Things got in the way. I gave a very brief explanation in this post. I hope that is the last of the hurdles and roadblocks.

Is 2027 feasible? I’m thinking of creating a T-Shirt…

2027… I BELIEVE!!!

You know you want it!

  1. Expression based on a short story by Alphonse Daudet about a man who falls in love with a woman from Arles he met only once. He is convinced she will join him but throughout the story, she never shows. Refers to someone or something that is mentioned often but never appears. ↩︎
